Allowed to Celebrate Emancipation Day, Moberly, Missouri · Friday, August 04, 1916

Lula Smith, a negress woman who was fined $3 and court costs yesterday after pleading guilty to street walking, was granted temporary freedom this morning. This decision was made to allow her to celebrate Emancipation Day. She has promised to return to jail tomorrow to complete her sentence.
