The historic Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church will hosted an Emancipation Proclamation service, promising a memorable evening of reflection, music, and community.
The program, meticulously planned, begins with the stirring song, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” followed by an opening prayer. The church choir will grace the congregation with a harmonious song, setting a reverent tone. The scripture reading will be delivered by Miss N. M. Erickson, followed by a vocal solo from Marthelia O. M. Smith, whose voice is sure to captivate all in attendance.
A highlight of the evening will be the vocal quartet featuring the Rev. J. M. Hughes, R. L. Carr, H. Palmer, and V. I. Blake, whose blended voices will undoubtedly inspire. The Emancipation Proclamation address will be delivered by Mrs. Clifford McElroy from Macon, a speaker renowned for her eloquence and depth of understanding.
Miss Marian O. Bartlett will perform an instrumental solo, showcasing her musical talent and adding a special touch to the evening’s proceedings. Dr. C. B. Johnson, a respected pastor from Jefferson City, will deliver the Emancipation Proclamation sermon, a moment anticipated to be both profound and uplifting.
The program will conclude with a selection from a male quartet, an offering, and closing remarks by the Rev. A. J. Bell, the esteemed pastor of Grant Chapel. The service is sponsored by the Missionary Society and Class No. 3, groups dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and community unity.
