Big Day in Police Court During Emancipation Day, Moberly, Missouri · Friday, August 10, 1906

Yesterday was an exceptionally busy day for the local police force. While most of the colored people celebrating Emancipation Day in our city were peaceful, there were a few troublemakers who caused problems and ended up in jail. By 1 o’clock this morning, about thirty Negroes were in jail, mostly for minor offenses. Eight of them were crowded into a single cell only about six feet square. If they can pay their fines, it will significantly boost the city’s police court finances.
