Yesterday, the Negro community from across the state gathered in Hannibal to celebrate Emancipation Day, drawing an estimated crowd of 5,000. The day’s festivities commenced with a grand street parade at noon, showcasing vibrant displays and spirited participation from attendees.
In the afternoon, the celebration continued with a series of impactful speeches, reflecting on the significance of Emancipation and the progress made since. The evening culminated in a special performance at the opera house, featuring the play “The Negro,” which captivated the audience with its poignant portrayal of the Negro experience.
The celebration in Hannibal was a resounding success, honoring the history and achievements of the Negro community with pride and joy.
