The St. Louis All-Stars will challenge the fast local Negro team, the Gatewood-Browns, in a much-anticipated season opener at Lockwood Park. Jewell, who played third base last season, is set to start as the pitcher for the Gatewood-Browns in tomorrow afternoon’s game, weather permitting. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 o’clock, with Mayor E. A. Willott honored to throw the ceremonial first ball.
Last season, the All-Stars and Gatewood-Browns faced off twice, each securing a victory. The Moberly nine had an impressive record, winning 27 games and losing only five. This season, the team has been bolstered by the addition of Catcher Davis, formerly with Higginsville, and First Baseman Bagby, who played with Fulton last year.
