Soldier, Earl Washingon Hand Cut Off in Wabash Yards. Moberly, Missouri, Monday, November 9, 1942

Earl Washington, a 22-year-old private in the U.S. Army stationed at Camp Maxey, Texas, lost most of his right hand, except for the thumb, in an accident in the Wabash yards on Saturday afternoon. Earl, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Washington, who reside at 909 West Coates Street, slipped while attempting to go between the cars of a train in the yards.

Earl had come to Moberly to attend the funeral of his grandfather, King Taylor. He was taken to McCormick Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
