Leroy Matlock and Jimmy Crutchfield, young and talented Moberly natives playing for the Pittsburgh Crawfords, a renowned Negro professional club, are set to make a thrilling homecoming appearance this Sunday. They will join the Gatewood-Browns in their game against the formidable St. Louis All-Stars at Lockwood Field.
Manager Brown received word from Crutchfield confirming that both he and Matlock will arrive in Moberly on Saturday night, just in time for the big game. With the Crawfords having concluded their season, Matlock is expected to pitch for the Gatewood-Browns, while Crutchfield will showcase his skills in the outfield.
This highly anticipated match marks the second encounter between the two teams. In their previous face-off, the Gatewood-Browns narrowly lost to the St. Louis team with a score of 3 to 4. The All-Stars are known for their strength and exceptional players, including L. Chism, a swift left fielder, and J. Whitney, who boasts 26 home runs this season.
Adding to the excitement, a play-by-play account of the World Series game in St. Louis will be broadcast at Lockwood Field. Fans can catch all the action starting at 2:30 PM. Don’t miss this spectacular event, featuring local stars and top-tier baseball talent!
