Spring brings a renewed sense of purpose for the congregation of the Baptist colored church as they prepare to complete their church building on Elizabeth Street. In a significant step forward, the church members have secured a contract for 125,000 bricks from the Star Brick Plant, marking a crucial milestone in their construction efforts.
Among those contributing to this ambitious project is Gus Roth, a native of Moberly who had been working as a machinist in Loraine Ohio. Gus has returned to his hometown to lend his support and expertise to the church’s construction. He intents to remain here and work in the Wabash shops. His involvement underscores the deep ties and commitment of the community to see this project through to completion.
The church on Elizabeth Street stands as a symbol of resilience and unity within the colored community, reflecting their dedication to creating a place of worship and fellowship. The forthcoming completion of the church promises to be a proud moment for all involved, showcasing the power of collective effort and shared faith.
Stay tuned for updates as this determined congregation moves closer to realizing their dream, brick by brick.
