Don’t be alarmed. Rumors of smallpox in Huntsville surfaced today, prompting swift action to protect Moberly. According to Judge Myers, who was in Huntsville yesterday, a negro woman and her three children arrived there from Wellsville. Two of the children had recently recovered from smallpox.
To safeguard the community, Moberly has imposed a quarantine against all negro residents from Huntsville and towns extending west to Kansas City. This measure includes the northern regions as well. Any colored individuals arriving in Moberly by train will be sent back immediately. Roads leading into Moberly are under strict surveillance.
The colored family from Wellsville has already been sent back, ensuring no further risk of contagion.
