The windstorm that swept through Moberly on Sunday morning caused significant damage in Higbee. The Katy depot was unroofed, the colored church was blown down, and the glass in the west side of nearly every house in town was shattered. Additionally, many dwellings were unroofed and otherwise damaged.
According to the Katy operator, the depot building rocked so violently that the clock stopped, and when the roof was torn off, he feared for his life. Miraculously, despite the extensive damage, no one was injured. The storm’s aftermath left a trail of destruction, but the community was thankful for the safety of its residents.
