Reverend Bates has emerged victorious against the warring faction within the Second Baptist Church. This afternoon, Judge A. H. Waller, in circuit court, rendered a decision affirming that Reverend Bates had not been legally removed as pastor of the colored Baptist Church and that the church was open to all members for religious worship under his leadership.
While Reverend Bates continues to serve as pastor, it is unlikely that the Grimes faction will contribute to the collection box willingly, unless coerced. This ruling marks a significant moment in the ongoing conflict within the church, with Reverend Bates’ position now legally secured amidst the ongoing tensions.
