This Saturday marks Emancipation Day, and Moberly is set to come alive with two grand celebrations, ensuring there’s something happening every minute.
Miller’s Park Celebration
The event at Miller’s Park, organized by the Bates faction, promises a vibrant program for the colored community. With an admission fee of 10 and 15 cents, attendees can expect a day filled with lively entertainment. The renowned Baston, Iowa, cornet band, boasting 20 pieces, will keep the atmosphere buzzing with music from morning until night. The celebration will also feature an array of barbecued meats and a variety of delicious side dishes, offering a true feast for all who attend.
Hogan’s West End Park Celebration
In contrast, Hogan’s West End Park will host a free celebration spearheaded by the Grimes Garrett Kirby group. This event will offer barbecued mutton, pig, and a plethora of vegetables, promising a hearty and satisfying meal for everyone. The B. P. Silver cornet band will provide continuous musical entertainment, ensuring a lively and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the day and night.
Both parks guarantee a day filled with old-time colored fun, with plenty of music, food, and festivities to honor the occasion. Emancipation Day in Moberly is set to be a memorable event, with something for everyone to enjoy.
