The Moberly Monitor-Index and Moberly Evening Democrat reported on the significant enhancements underway at the city’s parks, particularly highlighting improvements at the Negro Park.
The playground at the Negro Park has seen major upgrades, largely due to the dedicated efforts of the American Legion. Additional contributions from the Brown Shoe Company employees’ organization and local benefactor Louis Klein have further supported these developments. The women of Moberly have also played a crucial role in beautifying the area, contributing to the park’s renewed vibrancy.
This year, three new tennis courts have been added to Rothwell Park, with one specifically in the Negro Park. Although work is still in progress, the courts are expected to be completed in time for the park’s formal season opening. These courts, featuring a limestone and clay surface, are anticipated to be well-received by the local tennis enthusiasts.
A significant addition to the Negro Park is a new swimming pool, approximately 100 by 150 feet in size, providing a much-needed recreational facility for the community. The Reed Street entrance to the park is being black-topped, and repairs are underway at both the Franklin and Concannon street entrances. New “Rothwell Park” signs have been installed on each of the entrance pillars, enhancing the park’s visibility and welcoming visitors.
Additionally, a new furnace has been installed in the newly built shelter house, ensuring comfort for park-goers throughout the year. These enhancements mark a significant investment in the community’s recreational infrastructure, promising an improved and enjoyable park experience for all residents of Moberly.
